The World: The Pantanal
The Pantanal is the largest tropical wetland on Earth — a vast, seasonal floodplain shared by Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay, home to jaguars, capybaras, caimans, hyacinth macaws and thousands of other species. In The Legend of Akam, the Pantanal is not scenery: it floods, it burns, it feeds and it threatens, and its rhythms shape every character's fate. It is, in every sense, a character in the story.

Akam
A young caiman of the Pantanal, Akam dreams of a great destiny. But the one he thought he was chasing will lead him to challenge one of the oldest laws of his species, forever changing the fate of the Great Kingdom.
The Narrator
Arach
One of Akam's 37 children, both a protagonist and the narrator of the story, Arach brings the perspective of childhood and innocence to the narrative. He alone gives meaning to Akam's character arc.
The Guide
Capi
A capybara who leads Akam toward the light, is driven away by fear and misunderstanding, and returns exactly when he is needed most.
The Presence
Zoa
A presence whose absence changes everything Akam believes about himself. Her story is still being written.
A Living Ensemble
In the tradition of the great Disney-lineage animated classics, the animals of The Legend of Akam are fully anthropomorphized — they speak, they scheme, they love, they fear — while remaining recognizably, believably themselves.
